Two Words: Dim Sum

30 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Who does not love Dim Sum?! 🙂  When in Hongkong, I need to have my dimsum fix and we found one of our favorite places through our Hongkie friend, Charlie!  Thanks, Charlie! 🙂

Thanks for taking us here to Metropol Restaurant 🙂

Uyyyy, may wifi! 🙂  Checking emails na si Sir…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Meanwhile, I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the food…  I SEE PORK BUNS.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They also have an open kitchen at the center of the restaurant.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Some veggies?  Hmmm… maybe later.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My parents’ favorite, congee 🙂  You can choose any two of these toppings.

Out of all the dimsum and food on the table, Damien chooses to eat his favorite dish… PLAIN RICE.  LOL! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was what Damien had for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  This OR French Fries.

My dad enjoying his meal.  Hahaha! 🙂

My Little Pastry

25 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One thing I love about Hongkong is their food.  And not just Chinese food but all sorts of things you see along the way.  Like this Danish Bar, which is actually a part of the Little Mermaid Bakery, a Japanese bakery that we first saw in Japan 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oh my, these Danish Balls are hot and crispy!  I love croissants and these are like bite-sized versions of a croissant.  This is the plain one which I loved!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And Dante, of course, got the chocolate one 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Weeee… I love these.  My new favorite little pastry 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was somewhere in City Super, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hongkong! 🙂

Before the Ramen Addiction

15 Jan

I was never a Ramen lover before.  Wouldn’t even consider trying it.

Every time I would go to a ramen house with Dante,

I would either order gyoza or anything else BUT ramen.

Again with our favorite Hongkie couple, Gerwin and Charlie

In our recent trip to HK, Dante kept begging me to eat with him in Ippudo.

I wasn’t too excited.  Kept thinking, noodle soup for dinner?  But I’m not sick.  LOL!

But I was excited to have dinner with Charlie and Gerwin 🙂

So here we are...

Waiting for our food 🙂

Being the stubborn person that I am, I stuck with my usual orders.

My Gyoza

Pork Buns

My little pork bowl

Was still hungry so I ordered another dish.

A mini dish, that is. My little plate of fried chicken.

Meanwhile, the three were raving about their ramen bowls.

Why?! What’s so great about a bowl of noodle soup.  I just don’t get it.

I always associated eating ramen or noodle soup with being sick at home in bed.

Fresh Garlic

Little did I know…

Located at Shop 210, Silvercord Tower, 30 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hongkong

I’ll be back, Ippudo.

Best Burger in the Planet

29 Dec

It’s almost midnight and I have this sudden craving for my favorite burger in the planet.  Triple-O’s by White Spot. “The sauciest, juiciest, tastiest, bestest burgers around!” I first tried Triple-O’s in Hongkong recommended by our friends, Charlie and Gerwin, but originated in Vancouver, BC.  I thought it would be just another typical burger.  But, OMG, Dante and I fell in love with their burgers and it has been our favorite eversince.

Freshly cooked french fries!

I always get their mushroom burger 🙂

What’s so great about this burger??? Does it have a special mayo or sauce? Is it their tasty, buttery bread or the super juicy burger?! I do hope Triple-O’s finds its way to Manila! Or else I would just have to keep looking at these photos over and over again and wait for the next time I’m in Hongkong 🙂 I love you, Triple-O’s!!!

A Walk in Mongkok :)

13 Dec

When in HK, Mongkok is a must especially for these two.  It’s just about three to four stops via MTR from Tsimshatsui Station 🙂 It’s where all the toys and shoe stores are.  Toys for the big boys.

Before anything else, Gong Cha stop first, for a tall glass of cold milk tea 🙂

Planning our agenda for the afternoon.

Oh but wait….second stop: fried tentacles in curry powder seasoning!  THIS IS CRISPY, CHEWY, SALTY GOODNESS in a brown paper bag 🙂 ahhh, I want one now! There is something similar to this though in Serenitea. Try their chicken chops 🙂 I will have some today!

Not too adventurous to try these delicacies.

But this we cannot miss.  Third stop: Cold noodles.  (We just actually had lunch.)

We chose Octopus.  Spicy.

Cold noodles in spicy sauce with octopus.  Winner!!! 🙂

My brother Chris cannot decide. Red or blue?! 🙂

Blue.  Ready to rock his gigs 🙂

Time to head back to the hotel now to meet the folks and Damien for dinner 🙂 Yes, eat again! 🙂

There is also a ladies’ market in Mongkok.  But be careful.  Since it’s a tourist spot, a lot of the sales people start at a really high price 😦 Be firm.  Just pretend to walk away while you haggle 🙂 Prices get lower as you walk away 🙂

And the best Xiao Long Bao goes to…

6 Dec

Every time we visit Hongkong, eating our favorite Xiao Long Bao is a MUST. They are like soup dumplings 🙂 And we’ve discovered where to go to eat the BEST Xiao Long Bao in Hongkong…

Din Tai Fung 🙂 We go to the one in Silvercord, Shop 30, 3/F, No. 30 Canton Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon 🙂

Meet my husband, Dante, and my son, Damien Crow 🙂 We just came from Toys R’ Us and Crow was so happy with his new toy.  Boba Fett… bought by his Uncle Chris, a Star Wars geek himself 🙂

A cup of tea to prepare my tummy for the meal ahead.

Oh yey! Kids get their own plastic plates and bowls 🙂 very smart of them 🙂

And their own spoon… As shown by Crow 🙂

While waiting for the food, one more photo, boys! 🙂

Here comes the spicy vegetable wonton 🙂

Then arrives the award-winning Xiao Long Bao…. There’s my Dad 🙂

Shrimp Fried Rice.

Veggies, of course 🙂

Dante’s favorite porkchop 🙂

Another order of porkchop over rice 🙂 Para hindi bitin 🙂

And some spring rolls 🙂

Definitely one of my favorite restaurants, ever 🙂 So if you’re planning a trip to Hongkong soon and craving for some Xiao Long Bao, you know where to go 🙂

My Two Favorite Hongkees take us to Zhong Guo Song :)

4 Dec

"My Favorite Honkees"

Meet Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Gerwin Co =) Charlie has been my friend since Highschool and she has been based in HK for almost seven years now with her husband Gerwin and their super cute daughter, Georgina.  Always need to see these two whenever we visit.

Taking the Star Ferry to meet up with Charlie and Gerwin.  Love riding this at night 🙂

One of Charlie and Gerwin’s favorite restaurants in HK 🙂

And it’s award-winning! Dante and I were getting very excited at this point.

What to drink first.  Soya Milk, please? 🙂

Veggies.

Crispy Tofu.

Of course, a must. Sweet and Sour Pork 🙂

Now, this is their award-winning pork dish. Braised pork with XO sauce 🙂

Chicken with Eggplant.

Fried Shrimp with Salted Egg. Now THIS is award-winning!

Red Bean Soup for dessert.

Good company, great food. Happy tummies! Thanks for taking us here, Charlie and Gerwin! Another good discovery! 🙂
