Remembering VYTT 2016

25 Dec

Before the year ends, I just wanted to share one of the best things that happened to me in 2016.  And not just for the year, I will never forget this experience for the rest of my life.  This life changing month took place in Yoga+ Salcedo Village, Makati, last February 15 to March 11, 2016.

I really had no idea what I got myself into.  I never really thought I would end up teaching yoga.  I signed up just because.  Just because I needed to deepen my own practice, maybe? Something in me just kept saying, just do it or else you’ll regret it.  So I signed up before the early early bird rate expired. Haha! Thanks to one of my besties and business partner, Isabel, who swiped her card on the day of the deadline. No turning back now.

So I went through the training.  Got up at 5am every morning to make it to the studio by 6am.  I am not a morning person.  But I just kept waking up every morning during the training excited.  Excited to see my co-trainees, excited to see my teachers, excited to start my day doing meditation and our daily asana practice. But I must admit, not all days were sunshine and rainbows.  There were days when I’d question myself again, “Why am I here?”  There were days when I wanted to give up and felt like I just wanted to get it over with.

After four weeks of sleepless nights, a million chaturangas, so much information on anatomy, yoga poses and philosophy all jumbled up in my brain, I did it.  I can’t believe I am a certified yoga instructor.  I am teaching yoga in studios, applying all that I’ve learned during teacher training.  It’s all starting to sink in now… why I did teacher training.  It wasn’t just about becoming a yoga teacher but I wanted to be a better human being. I am at peace with myself, learning to accept my own strengths and weaknesses.  And that it’s okay to be me 🙂

I look up to all my teachers.  I never realized how much energy it takes to lead a yoga class.  You give so much of yourself to people you don’t even know.  To my teachers, Neil, Aisa and Ryan, a big thank you for sharing your precious time and a part of who you are with us 🙂

To all my co-teacher trainees, I am grateful that I spent those four grueling and memorable weeks with you, couldn’t have asked for a better support group and family.

Last but not the least, thank you to my family and friends who have been so patient putting up with no-sleep-ME and super-stressed-out ME.  Haha! You guys were and will always be my rock, solid AF.

2017 is around the corner.  My heart is open and full.  I’ve never been happier.

Happy Holidays! 🎄

26 Dec

Since everyone has been posting family pictures during the holidays, I just have to post ours ✌️😝

Merry Christmas, my friends, from my little family to yours! ❤️  I will try my best to post regularly again on my blog for those who are wondering where the hell I’ve been 😆 Been doing a lot of soul searching lately 😂 Whatever! Haha! Enjoy the holidays! Five more days before we welcome 2016. It’s been great, 2015, really. I will remember this year, lots of new beginnings for me. Hopefully, these beginnings will blossom into something special.

Ok, enough of the reflections. LOL!

Happy Holidays, everyone!!! Eat, sleep and celebrate life! ❤️

A Mother’s Day

13 May

I thank the Lord everyday…

For giving me a son…

Who loves me for who I am…

Even if I’m not perfect…

And for giving me a mother…

Who is.

Crow and Greggy

11 Apr

Last Easter Sunday, Spiderman and Ironman reunite for lunch 🙂

Meet Greggy (left) and Crow (right).  And that’s Kuya Sabine in the middle 🙂  They are all cousins.

Greggy brought his action figures to Easter lunch and gladly lent Crow his Spiderman action figure 🙂  Thanks, Greggy, for putting Crow’s Star Wars spaceships to rest for an afternoon 🙂  Once they started playing, they immediately got into character.

Greggy getting ready to save the world! 🙂

Looking for the enemy.

These boys are bursting with energy.  All we can do is sit back and watch them run around freely hoping that they won’t bump into anything.

Game face on!

I am Ironman!

In memory of the great Whitney Houston, “I believe the children are our future”.  These two are superheroes in the making 🙂

Just Another Wednesday

29 Mar

Been missing my big sister, Ate Candy, lately… And yesterday morning, I got a long distance phone call from Canada! 🙂  What a pleasant surprise!!!  While we were chatting, I realized that I’m nine years younger than her. LOL! I never felt that she was nine years older than me.  I’ve always felt like she was just about three or four years older 🙂  Haha! But twenty years wiser indeed 🙂  You were the only one missing today, Ate!  You missed a great Korean lunch. (More about my Ate soon…)

It’s usually a tradition for the birthday celebrant in the family to treat everyone to a good meal.  So I decided to take mine to this Korean restaurant in Greenbelt 5 called Bulgogi Brothers.  My whole family was complete except for my big sister and my little boy who was still recovering from his illness 😦

Bulgogi Brothers was a very nice place 🙂  For starters, they gave us this plate of corn, sweet potato and quail eggs.

Hot tea for everyone!

Thanks to my dearest family for having lunch with me today 🙂

More starters! I love kimchi 🙂

Korean Salad?

There were two electric stoves in our table where some dishes will be cooked 🙂  This first dish is called Seoul Bulgogi.  Kind of reminds me of Sukiyaki.  It was really good.  The sauce was great with my steamed rice.

This dish is good for 2-3 persons. It's sliced beef with vegetables. Bulgogi broth is made of fruits, onions and soy sauce.

Cute utensils 🙂

Bibimbap! I like to call it Korean Paella 🙂

One of their specialties. Mandu 🙂 Like a fried potsticker.

Japchae 🙂 One of my favorite Korean dishes. And those noodle-like rice sticks that surround it was unusual! 🙂 It was chewy and surprisingly yummy! 🙂

Galbijjim or Braised Short Ribs.

Another specialty of theirs. Rib eye! Medium rare 🙂 Just the way I like it!

Dipping sauces and salt 🙂

More meat!!! Short rib 🙂

That was a very good and filling lunch! 🙂 I'm always happy after eating a Korean meal.

And for the finale, ice cream in a waffle shaped like a fish with red bean/jam filling. It's heaven in a fish's tail 🙂

That was one heavy lunch!  My brother, Chris, and I were planning to take the 4pm Bikram Yoga class.  But after this meal, we knew it wasn’t a good idea.  So we decided to take the 6pm class.  And what a treat! One of my favorite yoga teachers, Joyce, was teaching!!! 🙂

Joyce has been teaching at Bikram Yoga Manila for about three years now and her classes have been the hottest, funniest, most musical classes I’ve ever been in 🙂  She’s almost leaving Manila and I will miss her and her classes so much! So happy I got to spend my birthday with her in the hotbox 🙂  Speaking of musical, she made my brother sing the birthday song at the end of class! LOL!  So funny seeing my classmates, some were complete strangers, strumming their air guitars while he was singing.  Bwahahaha! Nice one, Joyce! 🙂

I love ya to bits, Teacher Joyce! I will miss you sooooo much!!! 😦  Thank you for all the hours we’ve spent together in the torture chamber! I will await your return 🙂

This was taken during the launch of Chris' album, Heartbeat 🙂

After my ninety minutes of pain, my dear husband and I had another great meal in Apartment 1B in Salcedo Village.  I thought I was still full from lunch but after that class, I was ready to eat again. Haha! 🙂

I had crab cakes on a salad while Dante had a beef burger 🙂 Love this place!

AND, they gave me a little slice of cheesecake with a birthday candle! How sweet! 🙂  I wasn’t able to take a video or photo but when the staff of Apartment 1B gave me my cake,  the guard played the birthday song using his whistle.  LOL!  It sounded quite good! 🙂  I was just so impressed that I forgot to take his photo or video! 🙂  Darn! He was really good! 🙂

Birthdays to me are constant reminders of all the things I’m thankful for in my life 🙂  It was just an ordinary Wednesday.  But I heard from old friends whom I haven’t seen in years, I got calls and such sweet messages from the people I’ve had the privilege of working with and knowing, a long distance call from my Ate, a wonderful lunch with my family, time for myself in the hotbox, a lovely dinner with my soulmate…

… and a beautiful bouquet from the two men in my life.

But the truth is, these special people exist in my life every single day.  I don’t need my birthday to come along to realize it 🙂

Starting today, every ordinary day should feel like my birthday! 🙂 Everyday, I will be grateful 🙂

Another Dream Job Fulfilled: Barista

22 Feb

I’ve always wanted to be a Barista 🙂  First of all, I love coffee, the smell and taste of a good cup.  Secondly, it’s also a way for me to “kidnap” my husband or friends for about an hour or so to just catch up.  I’ve had some of the best conversations over a cup of coffee.

Our very own Saeco coffee machine! (Well, it's on loan...)

When I am not busy with makeup gigs or mommy duties, I am usually at my office. hehe Belle & Cat Nail and Wax Studio has become a second home to me and I am here almost everyday.  It’s always nice seeing our regular clients and meeting new ones 🙂 When I am craving for a cup of coffee, I would walk to either Blenz or Starbucks.  But not anymore… 🙂

Coffee in minutes! 🙂

Recently, I met with Jason, the brother of a good friend of mine, Tessa 🙂 I recently did her makeup for her wedding.  hehe Anyway, going back to the coffee.  Jason is from this company called Best Brew Coffee Solutions, Inc.  They provide “coffee solutions” for your office or shop or salon! 🙂 For me, coffee is the solution to everything! And yoga.  Jason provided us with everything that we needed to be able to give our clients a great cup of coffee while getting their nails done 🙂  You don’t get that in Starbucks! haha!

Love the smell of these local coffee beans. They're called Rocky Mountain Cafe Organic Mountain Blend Coffee.

Okay, so this is where my Barista skills come in.  First I choose the coffee that I am making 🙂 Made this cup for my friend, Angela, after she got her eyelashes permed.  She wanted a latte.  For a cup of latte, I just need a shot of espresso.

So below is the cup with a shot of espresso.

I then prepare the milk.  I place the milk in another cup.

I place the tube in the cup with the milk and with just one press of a button, there is my latte!

Since my friend, Angela, was watching me show off my Barista skills, I got too excited and pressed the button a second too late. Haha! OOOOPS…. too much milk! Sorry!!! 🙂 FAIL.

Angela's Latte 🙂 Almost perfect.

Okay, let me try this again.  Angela suggested to put the milk first then the shot of espresso… Could be. Could be 🙂

Best Brew Coffee Solutions, Inc, also provides the sugar and the creamer 🙂

Ever since we got this coffee machine,  B&C became an even happier place to be in 🙂  So to my dear friends, anytime you need a pick-me-up, you know where to go! Let’s catch up! 🙂

Thanks, Jason!

If you’re interested to provide excellent coffee in your office or shop, you may call 0917-846-BREW 🙂

Like Father Like Son

25 Jan

What is it with boys and motorcycles?! 🙂

Here is little Damien adoring his Papa’s bikes.  As promised, these will all be yours someday, son! That’s what your Papa told me 🙂

But for now, all you can do is look.  You’ll be able to ride one of these in eighteen years… or maybe more. We’ll see 🙂 That would be for ME to decide. hehe
