They also have an open kitchen at the center of the restaurant.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Some veggies?Β  Hmmm… maybe later.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My parents’ favorite, congee πŸ™‚Β  You can choose any two of these toppings.

Out of all the dimsum and food on the table, Damien chooses to eat his favorite dish… PLAIN RICE.Β  LOL! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was what Damien had for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Β  This OR French Fries.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My dad enjoying his meal.Β  Hahaha! πŸ™‚

A Bite of the BLT

26 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When in Hongkong, we always make it a point to eat at our favorite burger place called Triple O’s.Β  But during this trip, we wanted to give other burgers a chance.Β  Hehe!Β  We would often pass this burger place called BLT but the lines were always super long.Β  Luckily, we were already hungry at around 6pm and the place was not busy yet.Β  We just wanted a light dinner.Β  Yes, burgers are considered light for this “matakaw” family πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

BLT Burger is also located in New York and Las Vegas.Β  We have already tried BLT in Vegas a few years ago but I don’t remember how it tasted anymore πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Meet my lovely parents πŸ™‚ I love travelling with these two, matibay pa rin sa lakaran! πŸ™‚ They eat like birds though.Β  Haha!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My makulit boys! πŸ™‚ Whenever I say smile, guys, they always do this.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Waiting for our burgers…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Orders have arrived! πŸ™‚ So we all ordered the combo #2 which is the BLT Burger with fries, coleslaw and soda.Β  Dante and I got our own burgers and my parents split one πŸ™‚Β  This meal costs HK$162 each.Β  Pretty pricey for a burger, that’s approximately Php972 per meal.Β  But it does look like they prepared it with love.Β  LOL!Β  It looks so perfect πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What’s in the BLT?Β  7oz. grilled certified black Angus beef with double smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato with BLT burger sauce.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Damien’s favorite… French Fries πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Take a look inside my burger πŸ™‚Β  Perfect layers of beef, bacon, pickles, onions and tomatoes πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Happy tummies, happy family! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was definitely a good burger, medyo mahal lang but I enjoyed every expensive bite! Haha! πŸ™‚

Food Republic in Silvercord

25 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Food Republic is my favorite food court in Hongkong πŸ™‚Β  They’re located at the Silvercord Mall where H&M is and also Rococo, my favorite HK brand πŸ™‚Β  This is where we always have our first meal when we arrive in Hongkong.Β  Hehe… And I always go to the Glorious BBQ King to get my asado and roast duck fix! Aaaaahhh… so good.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The meal I get comes with soup.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Here it is… a plate of my favorite glorious bbq king meal!!! πŸ™‚Β  OMG… I dip these in plum and oyster sauce.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course some veggies to make me feel less guilty about what I’m about to eat.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another favorite dish of mine is from this Taiwanese stall.Β  Eggplant with minced beef.Β  Spicy! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And these pork dumplings, a MUST.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I can eat here everyday! πŸ™‚ Why oh why, Hongkong, why do you always make me gain weight?! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Silvercord is located at Canton Road, Hongkong πŸ™‚

My Little Pastry

25 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One thing I love about Hongkong is their food.Β  And not just Chinese food but all sorts of things you see along the way.Β  Like this Danish Bar, which is actually a part of the Little Mermaid Bakery, a Japanese bakery that we first saw in Japan πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oh my, these Danish Balls are hot and crispy!Β  I love croissants and these are like bite-sized versions of a croissant.Β  This is the plain one which I loved!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And Dante, of course, got the chocolate one πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Weeee… I love these.Β  My new favorite little pastry πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was somewhere in City Super, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hongkong! πŸ™‚

Spring Rolls and Baguettes

10 Sep

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dante and I, once a year, we always have that trip… the “let’s go somewhere we’ve never been before” trip.Β  Hehe!Β  This year it was Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam πŸ™‚Β  We didn’t know what to expect.Β  We didn’t have any itinerary.Β  The plan was to eat, sleep and be merry for four days.

Our first authentic Vietnamese meal was at this place called Nha Hang Ngon πŸ™‚Β  Recommended by a friend and was also suggested by the concierge at our hotel.Β  It was a really nice place!Β  It didn’t look so much like a restaurant but more like someone’s house πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First we had the salad roll with shrimp and pork.Β  These are dishes rolled with rice papers πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Personally I’m not fond of bland, green, healthy stuff.Β  Haha!Β  But Dante loves these πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

But in fairness to this salad roll, it tasted really fresh! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Moving on to another dish, I ordered the fried pork and crab spring rolls served with vermicelli and fresh herbs πŸ™‚ I liked this very much!Β  It’s like an extra large lumpiang Shanghai πŸ™‚ Hehe…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Can’t live without rice.Β  We ordered the steamed broken rice with grilled pork chop πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also ordered fresh grape juice πŸ™‚

We only spent about Php400.00 for this meal!Β  How reasonable for a great lunch!Β  And it was a really nice place πŸ™‚Β  Would definitely recommend this place when in Ho Chi Minh πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another place the concierge lady at the hotel recommended was Nhu Lan πŸ™‚Β  I told her I wanted Banh Mi and she told us to go here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was so amazed how reasonable the prices were in Ho Chi Minh! We can totally eat all we want here! Haha!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This Banh Mi place had a different vibe from the first restaurant we ate in πŸ™‚Β  The first place was more pang date-date.Β  This place had a carinderia vibe which is what I loved about this place πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Came at the right time πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I first tried Banh Mi at this vegetarian place called Wabi Sabi at The Collective, Makati πŸ™‚Β  I am so not a vegatarian nor do I love eating vegetables but I really fell in love with the Banh Mi in Wabi Sabi.Β  It tasted like real meat.Β  Haha!

Below, my friends, is the real deal πŸ™‚Β  Banh Mi means bread… a baguette, specifically, that was introduced by the French πŸ™‚Β  It’s a sandwich with meat and vegetables πŸ™‚Β  LOVE THIS.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A closer look at my Banh Mi πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course, again, we need rice.Β  LOL!Β  So ordered barbecued pork with rice with our Banh Mi.Β  Haha!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dante’s favorite… more spring rolls.Β  You can have them both, Dants πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is the meat they put inside the Banh Mi πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And the perfect looking baguettes πŸ™‚Β  They remind of me of the texture of your rings, Dants!Β  Haha! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Saya kumain sa Vietnam, affordable na, masarap pa!Β  Puro gulay pero ok lang… paminsan minsan lang naman.Β  Haha! πŸ™‚

A Binondo Wok

7 Jun

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Meeting place was Binondo Church at 9am πŸ™‚ But first I lit a candle for thanksgiving.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I always pass this Church when I’m on my way to Divisoria.Β  But I never saw the inside.

What a beautiful Church!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Cute trinkets.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have always wanted to join this Binondo Food Tour.Β  And since my sister was in town, we decided to book four slots last Saturday, May 31, 2014.Β  It was me, my sister, mom and dad.Β  I think I was the most excited.Β  I love food, especially Chinese food.

This blog post is a little bit long and it will show you what we did during the entire tour.Β  Haha!Β  Scroll down if you have the time or if you’ve already taken the tour.Β  Warning to those who haven’t:Β  Spoiler alert!Β  Haha! πŸ™‚

This Binondo Food Tour was brought to you by Old Manila Walks. πŸ™‚

We begin with a little bit of history… πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My sister and I just had coffee that morning.Β  Saved our stomach for all the food we’re about to eat! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was a lazy, catty morning πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Goodmorning from our dear tour guide, Ivan Man Dy πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hot tea for everyone.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The tour begins with our appetizers πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My dad about to try the fresh lumpia πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is what’s inside πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ivan told us that the owner of this little restaurant was Amah Pilar πŸ™‚Β  She opened this restaurant at the age of sixty.Β  It’s never too late to open up your own business! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Outside the restaurant, there is an abundant supply of tofu πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My dad, mom and Ate ready for the third course.Β  LOL! πŸ™‚Β  Kaya pa???

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They make the dumplings by the entrance for everyone to see πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

But the secret is in the filling πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I wonder how many they make in a day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Manong Taho!!! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Taho for everyone!Β  Who doesn’t love taho?!?! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Special sauce for the dumplings.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Pancakes”, anyone? πŸ™‚ These were so yummy, too!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Chicken with an Indian twist πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The next stop was a little stall that sold fried siopao πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was already so full so I took home my fried siopao and had it at home for merienda.Β  My only regret… Not taking more fried siopao home!Β  I can’t stop thinking about these!!!Β  I have to go back to Binondo ASAP for these.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Bicho Bicho! πŸ™‚Β  This is so good with sugar and some hot chocolate.Β  But maybe not on that very very very hot day πŸ™‚

Reminds me of churros! πŸ™‚

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I am so not good at directions.Β  I really didn’t know exactly where we were πŸ™‚ Haha!Β  But these street signs may help.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A quick stop at a “sari-sari” store.Β  Sari-saring snacks and preserved food πŸ™‚
