Those Fine Buns

19 Feb

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was one of those days when Dante and I were excited to try out something new.  But not so new anymore now.  Haha!  This post is way delayed.  Haha! But to those who haven’t eaten there yet, it’s a great place to have merienda and prices are pretty reasonable.

So we got in our car on a normal day and went through the usual Edsa traffic to eat in Tim Ho Wan in SM Megamall.  This was when the Glorietta branch was still closed.  We arrived at around 1:30pm and the line wasn’t so long.  But there was still a bit of waiting time of around 15 minutes.  Not bad 🙂 Good thing I wasn’t that hungry yet or else I wouldn’t have waited.  Haha!

Their menu is a little check list on a clipboard and all we had to do was check our orders.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I just kept checking and checking… Haha!  Everything in the menu looks so good!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So here are the chosen ones in the list 🙂

We ordered the pork ribs with steamed rice.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Wasabi Salad Prawn Dumpling.  This was interesting 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Spring Rolls with egg white.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Pan Fried Radish Cake.  My favorite 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Pork Dumpling with shrimp.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Vermicelli roll with shrimp.  Loved this!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Everything we ate so far was good!

But of course, the star of Tim Ho Wan, their pork buns! 🙂  I really enjoyed every bite.  From the soft and crumbly bread to the sweet asado pork filling!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I would definitely come back for these fine buns! 🙂

What Every Bookstore Needs: A Bakery

1 Dec

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Page One in City Super, Harbour City, has been newly renovated into a beautiful bookstore and concept store!  I just wanted to spend the whole afternoon here!  Aside from books and magazines, they also have super pretty notebooks, organizers, tote bags, pens… all the things I need in my life 🙂

And then this place… Rose Bakery, Page One’s Cafe.  I LOVE IT HERE 🙂  All bookstores must come with a cafe! Hehe!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Couldn’t choose which cake to eat…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Decided to get coconut and lime cake 🙂  So yummy!  I love coconut and lime together 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love the simple presentation of my brewed coffee 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A cup of coffee… the best thing in the world.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

While spacing out in the Rose Bakery, I was admiring my new rings from Urban Outfitters.  Hehehe…  And of course, my engagement and wedding rings on my ring finger 🙂  Haha!

(Please excuse my wrinkly fingers… Hehe!)

Happy that Urban Outfitters is finally in Hongkong! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Even Damien loved it here 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Anyway, if you’re in Hongkong, visit the new Page One and have a slice of cake for me, please! 🙂

Two Words: Dim Sum

30 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Who does not love Dim Sum?! 🙂  When in Hongkong, I need to have my dimsum fix and we found one of our favorite places through our Hongkie friend, Charlie!  Thanks, Charlie! 🙂

Thanks for taking us here to Metropol Restaurant 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Uyyyy, may wifi! 🙂  Checking emails na si Sir…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Meanwhile, I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the food…  I SEE PORK BUNS.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They also have an open kitchen at the center of the restaurant.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Some veggies?  Hmmm… maybe later.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My parents’ favorite, congee 🙂  You can choose any two of these toppings.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dim Sum for everyone!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Barbecued pork, of course… my favorite 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Congee for my mom and dad.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Asado siopao!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dante’s favorite sticky rice… Machang 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another one of my favorites and a must, taro puffs.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Crispy spring rolls 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dumplings! Chinese version of my favorite Japanese gyoza 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Out of all the dimsum and food on the table, Damien chooses to eat his favorite dish… PLAIN RICE.  LOL! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was what Damien had for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  This OR French Fries.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My dad enjoying his meal.  Hahaha! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Still checking email…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Good thing we were early because the place was packed when we were about to leave.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Damien with Wata and Toto 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We had no more room for dessert but they looked delicious.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was the view from the restaurant. Can you see the tents of the protesters?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Love this place! I will always eat here when in Hongkong 🙂

Metropol is located at the  4/F United Centre, 95 Queensway, Admiralty  🙂

A Bite of the BLT

26 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When in Hongkong, we always make it a point to eat at our favorite burger place called Triple O’s.  But during this trip, we wanted to give other burgers a chance.  Hehe!  We would often pass this burger place called BLT but the lines were always super long.  Luckily, we were already hungry at around 6pm and the place was not busy yet.  We just wanted a light dinner.  Yes, burgers are considered light for this “matakaw” family 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

BLT Burger is also located in New York and Las Vegas.  We have already tried BLT in Vegas a few years ago but I don’t remember how it tasted anymore 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Meet my lovely parents 🙂 I love travelling with these two, matibay pa rin sa lakaran! 🙂 They eat like birds though.  Haha!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My makulit boys! 🙂 Whenever I say smile, guys, they always do this.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Waiting for our burgers…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Orders have arrived! 🙂 So we all ordered the combo #2 which is the BLT Burger with fries, coleslaw and soda.  Dante and I got our own burgers and my parents split one 🙂  This meal costs HK$162 each.  Pretty pricey for a burger, that’s approximately Php972 per meal.  But it does look like they prepared it with love.  LOL!  It looks so perfect 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What’s in the BLT?  7oz. grilled certified black Angus beef with double smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato with BLT burger sauce.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Damien’s favorite… French Fries 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Take a look inside my burger 🙂  Perfect layers of beef, bacon, pickles, onions and tomatoes 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Happy tummies, happy family! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was definitely a good burger, medyo mahal lang but I enjoyed every expensive bite! Haha! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

BLT Burger is located at Level 3, Ocean Terminal, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hongkong 🙂

Food Republic in Silvercord

25 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Food Republic is my favorite food court in Hongkong 🙂  They’re located at the Silvercord Mall where H&M is and also Rococo, my favorite HK brand 🙂  This is where we always have our first meal when we arrive in Hongkong.  Hehe… And I always go to the Glorious BBQ King to get my asado and roast duck fix! Aaaaahhh… so good.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The meal I get comes with soup.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Here it is… a plate of my favorite glorious bbq king meal!!! 🙂  OMG… I dip these in plum and oyster sauce.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course some veggies to make me feel less guilty about what I’m about to eat.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another favorite dish of mine is from this Taiwanese stall.  Eggplant with minced beef.  Spicy! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And these pork dumplings, a MUST.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I can eat here everyday! 🙂 Why oh why, Hongkong, why do you always make me gain weight?! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Silvercord is located at Canton Road, Hongkong 🙂

My Little Pastry

25 Nov

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One thing I love about Hongkong is their food.  And not just Chinese food but all sorts of things you see along the way.  Like this Danish Bar, which is actually a part of the Little Mermaid Bakery, a Japanese bakery that we first saw in Japan 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oh my, these Danish Balls are hot and crispy!  I love croissants and these are like bite-sized versions of a croissant.  This is the plain one which I loved!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And Dante, of course, got the chocolate one 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Weeee… I love these.  My new favorite little pastry 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was somewhere in City Super, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hongkong! 🙂

Spring Rolls and Baguettes

10 Sep

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dante and I, once a year, we always have that trip… the “let’s go somewhere we’ve never been before” trip.  Hehe!  This year it was Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam 🙂  We didn’t know what to expect.  We didn’t have any itinerary.  The plan was to eat, sleep and be merry for four days.

Our first authentic Vietnamese meal was at this place called Nha Hang Ngon 🙂  Recommended by a friend and was also suggested by the concierge at our hotel.  It was a really nice place!  It didn’t look so much like a restaurant but more like someone’s house 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First we had the salad roll with shrimp and pork.  These are dishes rolled with rice papers 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Personally I’m not fond of bland, green, healthy stuff.  Haha!  But Dante loves these 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

But in fairness to this salad roll, it tasted really fresh! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Moving on to another dish, I ordered the fried pork and crab spring rolls served with vermicelli and fresh herbs 🙂 I liked this very much!  It’s like an extra large lumpiang Shanghai 🙂 Hehe…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Can’t live without rice.  We ordered the steamed broken rice with grilled pork chop 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also ordered fresh grape juice 🙂

We only spent about Php400.00 for this meal!  How reasonable for a great lunch!  And it was a really nice place 🙂  Would definitely recommend this place when in Ho Chi Minh 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another place the concierge lady at the hotel recommended was Nhu Lan 🙂  I told her I wanted Banh Mi and she told us to go here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was so amazed how reasonable the prices were in Ho Chi Minh! We can totally eat all we want here! Haha!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This Banh Mi place had a different vibe from the first restaurant we ate in 🙂  The first place was more pang date-date.  This place had a carinderia vibe which is what I loved about this place 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Came at the right time 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I first tried Banh Mi at this vegetarian place called Wabi Sabi at The Collective, Makati 🙂  I am so not a vegatarian nor do I love eating vegetables but I really fell in love with the Banh Mi in Wabi Sabi.  It tasted like real meat.  Haha!

Below, my friends, is the real deal 🙂  Banh Mi means bread… a baguette, specifically, that was introduced by the French 🙂  It’s a sandwich with meat and vegetables 🙂  LOVE THIS.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A closer look at my Banh Mi 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course, again, we need rice.  LOL!  So ordered barbecued pork with rice with our Banh Mi.  Haha!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dante’s favorite… more spring rolls.  You can have them both, Dants 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is the meat they put inside the Banh Mi 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And the perfect looking baguettes 🙂  They remind of me of the texture of your rings, Dants!  Haha! 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Saya kumain sa Vietnam, affordable na, masarap pa!  Puro gulay pero ok lang… paminsan minsan lang naman.  Haha! 🙂
